You can drive along the East Coast Road (ECR), which has a picturesque view of the Bay of Bengal.  

Once you arrive in Puducherry, you'll feel you have shifted to a different world. The French Quarter, with its quaint cafes, Historical architecture, and spirited bougainvillaea, are a paradise for photographers and history enthusiasts. Enjoy your weekend by visiting the Shore Temple, which overlooks the Bay of Bengal. Inside the temple, you can also see some drawings of rocks that represent various mythological stories.

3. Yelagiri:  

If you're looking to explore the coolest atmosphere, Then Yelagiri is the perfect hill station for you to enjoy one of the best weekend outing spot, which you need to travel 230 kilometers (about 142.92 mi) from Chennai. The Yelagiri is in the Eastern Ghats, which has a known enjoyable climate, lush green environments, and serene lakes.  

You'll gain the best experience by riding at Yelagiri Hill Station, which has 14-hairpin bend panoramic views of the hills. Once you've reached it, you can enjoy boat riding surrounded by a greenish environment and trekking with rewards to views from the top.

4. Kanchipuram:   

Kanchipuram is popularly Known as the "City of Thousand Temples," an ideal destination for those seeking a spiritual retreat. It is located around 75 kilometres (about 46.6 mi) from Chennai and is famous for its magnificent temples displaying elegant Dravidian architecture.  

This place is also famous for its hand-crafted silk sarees. You can also visit a local saree-weaving workshop that offers enchanting insights into this traditional craft.   

5. Pulicat:   

Pulicat is the best nearby place for nature and bird lovers; it is around 60 kilometers (about 37.28 mi) from Chennai and offers a scenic natural view. Explore this coastal town by visiting Fews places like Pulicat Lake (the second largest saline bays in India) and Pulicat Bird Sanctuary, which you feel like heaven during the migratory season (November to December) with bird species, pelicans, herons, and flamingos.  

You can also have a boat ride on the lake that gives you a unique experience of seeing those magnificent birds in their natural environment.  

6. Vellore  

Vellore is Located around 140 kilometers (about 86.99 mi) from Chennai, providing a blend of historical, adventure, and spiritual moments. You can travel to places like Vijayanagara architecture, Jalakandeswarar temple, and fort houses architecture.  

To get a unique spiritual experience, visit the Golden Temple at Sripuram, known for its convoluted gold-covered structure. It is a complex temple with a lush green environment and is a sight to look at, especially when it brightens at night.
